Top 10 Peking Ducks in Singapore: Best Chinese Restaurants Offering Juicy Duck with Crispy Skin - DanielFoodDiary.com (2023)

For those unfamiliar, Peking duck is considered one of China's national dishes. (Read too:The Best Peking Ducks in Beijing)

Its origins date back to the Yuan Dynasty (1206 - 1368) when it was one of the imperial dishes in complete food and drink recipes. Which means emperors must love it, and I think they are very fussy eaters.

If there's a dish that minimizes waste, Peking duck should be named.

First, the thin, crispy skin is wrapped in a thin pancake with scallions and hoisin sauce. The "leftover" meat is often used for braising with pasta, rice or vegetables. Finally, the bones can be used to make soup stock. Almost all parts are used.

Here are 10 Chinese restaurants in Singapore that serve some of the best Peking duck: Note that the most popular restaurants often require a day to a week's advance reservation..

Jiang-Nan Chun
Four Seasons Hotel Singapore, 190 Orchard Blvd, Singapore 248646
Opening hours: 11:30 am. From 2:00 pm to 2:30 pm, from 6:00 pm to 10:30 pm (Monday to Sunday)

Jiang-Nan Chun's Signature Peking Duck ($98 total) impressed because it had a distinct, fragrant smoke unlike anything I've ever had.

This is because the duck is smoked on mesquite wood rather than lychee or apple wood, which is normally used in a purpose-built wood stove. Mesquite wood burns at a higher temperature, producing a more smoky flavor.

That's why the Michelin-starred restaurant's Peking Duck is marinated and air-pumped for over 14 hours to separate the skin from the fat.

I also found the breast skin to be deliciously crispy with a slight crunch, best eaten plain or just brushed with sugar.

(Video) Dian Xiao Er - Famous For Herbal Roast Duck and Other Comforting Chinese Dishes

I had to order the 42-Day Apple Wood Roasted Peking Duck ($108) over a week in advance, so make your plans. Late duck requests may not be honored.

One duck is enough for about 3-4 guests, roasted upon arrival and cooking time is about 60 minutes.

I checked with the service staff and was told that the ducks (sourced from Malaysia and delivered fresh) are about the same weight, not too 'old' and all ducks are raised for 42 days.

There was quite a bit of table presentation as even the peanut, sesame and hoisin sauce was rotated on the table before your eyes. Guests can also try the gyro.

I loved the crispy skin and juicy meat without the typical venison taste. The rice flour crepes were soft, although ironically it was more difficult to remove them piece by piece as they were separated by paper.

The second fried noodle option was also wonderful. Ask for some of that chili sauce that would enhance the overall flavor.

Opening hours: 11:30 am. 2:30 pm to 6:30 pm, 6:30 pm to 10:30 pm (Monday to Friday), 11 am From 2:30 pm to 2:30 pm, 6:30 pm to 10:30 pm (Saturday to Sunday)

Showcasing contemporary Sichuan and Cantonese dishes, Min Jiang Dempsey's Signature Peking Duck ($118) is based on an ancient Chinese recipe.

The ducks are from Silver Hill Farm in Ireland (yes, London Duck), known for their smooth texture and delicate flavor.

It is recommended to order a day in advance and the roasting time is about 45 minutes to an hour per duck.

We advise you to first try the Peking duck cooked in a wood-fired oven, served with homemade crepe with crispy duck skin and some granulated sugar.

The second mix includes ginger stir-fry, black pepper stir-fry, spicy duck with lettuce, or savory vegetable soup with duck and tofu.

Hours: Lunch 11:30 am to 2:30 pm (Monday to Friday), 11 am to 5 pm to 2:30 pm (Saturday to Sunday);

One of Orchard Hotel's 5 dining options, Hua Ting Restaurant is an award-winning restaurant specializing in an excellent repertoire of classic and contemporary Cantonese dishes.

Hua Ting's iconic dishes include smoked Peking duck with aged pu-erh, yuzu sauce ($49 half, $92 whole); and Hua Ting's Crispy Roast Duck.

Picture this: the duck's fat has been perfectly removed to reveal crispy, caramelized skin, while the meat remains juicy and tender.

The smoke added a seductive, earthy aroma that you get when you eat it freshly cut. (So please don't expect too much).

This really is one of the most memorable Peking ducks I've had in Singapore recently. My dining companion took a bite and continued“Ele sik, hou sik…”- Eyes wide with an exclamation of joy.

Hours: 11:30 am to 2:45 pm, 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm (Monday to Friday), 11:00 am to 2:45 pm, 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm (Saturday), 10:30 am to 2:45 pm, 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm (Sundays)

How many would know that our very own Peking Duck from the Imperial Treasury was once classified as one of them?Asia's 50 best restaurantsa few years ago, making it the only Chinese restaurant in Singapore on this list.

The preparation of Peking duck shows that these chefs mean business.

With reservations at least 3 days in advance, the chef deftly slices the Peking Duck ($108 whole) in front of your table into thin, crispy pieces with little meat and fat, lightly scented with the lychee wood used. In the oven.

There are 3 basic steps in eating. First, the crispiest meatless slices are presented with a sugar dish, dipped and enjoyed individually.

Afterwards, the other carved and glazed roast duck slices are wrapped in artisanal flour crepe, while they can be brushed with a little hoisin sauce for added sweetness.

The rest of the meat can be cooked to your liking, for example, roasted with vegetables or in a soup broth. My personal and perhaps only recommendation for this restaurant (and for Singapore) is to order their fried mee pok.

The Peking Duck (served in two dishes, $70 for the whole duck) is a must-try. This decadent chef-recommended dish features a whole duck cooked two ways.

For a first course, enjoy the duck's thin, crispy amber skin, traditionally wrapped in a thin pancake.

Watch as the skin is delicately carved and sliced in front of you, then topped with seaweed, cucumber strips, fresh spring onions and a thick homemade sweet sauce.

For the pancake, you get two types: regular and green spinach flavored.

The standard second dish is Roasted Picado Duck Wrapped in Salad.

Guests can also use the meat to stir-fry rice or noodles, or even deep-fry it and season it with salt and pepper for an additional $20.

It is the first restaurant in Singapore to serve London Duck in traditional Beijing style.

This Irish Peking Duck ($98) comes from Ireland's Silver Hill Farm and is precision-cured and roasted for three days. Order this iconic dish served with a special box of 8 treasures, a platter of condiments and sauces.

In addition to the usual hoisin sauce, cucumber and chives, modern twists include sweet cranberry sauce and a sophisticated "caramel pop" that sizzles in the mouth. I prefer to stick with the tried-and-true, but I suspect the kids will enjoy this novelty.

What we love about the TungLok XiHé take is the succulent slices of duck breast and tender thighs that are served, best simply dipped in the sweet sauce. In some places, the meat is barely visible.

Jade Restaurant's head chef, Leong Chee Yeng, and his team meticulously prepare Peking Duck Roast with Orange Zest ($88 for half, $128 for whole), first drizzling the birds with a blend of spices.

The roast Peking duck, very thin and crispy with a thin layer of fat, wrapped in a pancake with marinated orange peel, yellow bean sauce and cucumber was sweet, tasty and light.
